Teacher Drizzle

Drizzle is an Urban Forest School Leader at Roots and Boots. She holds a Masters of Science in Early Childhood Education from Wheelock College (Boston University), and a Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood and Leadership Studies. In her 16 years in the industry, she has taken on various roles in preschool settings working with children, teachers and parents. She has also lectured and conducted trainings in colleges and other institutes.

Drizzle is passionate about making a difference in the industry and believes in the importance of bridging the connection between learning and application of knowledge and skills. She believes that “Children are not things we mould but people we unfold” and is excited to develop pioneering concepts within an innovation curriculum and training platform for Roots & Boots.

If she were to be an animal, she would be a chimpanzee. Curious, playful, and keen to explore and learn!

 

Hui Ming Lao Shi

Hui Ming is a Chinese Mentor Teacher at Roots & Boots. She graduated with a WSQ Professional Diploma in Early Childhood Care and Education, and also completed Diploma in Chinese Language Teaching at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore as well as a Certificate of Resource of Infants & Toddlers (RIE). Originally from Malaysia, she has been teaching Mandarin in Singapore, in the field of child development since 1999.

She believes that every child is unique, and that children learn in different ways, being in nature will helps children grow and develop in a natural way. Hui Ming is passionate about explore new things and support children learn though play. If a child’s life is like a piece of paper, she hopes that their childhood will leave with natural image and the most beautiful mark.

If she were to be a plant, she would be a big tree, provide shade from the hot sun, making people relax and comfortable.

 

Cheng Lao Shi (Yin Xia)

Yin Xia is a Chinese Teacher at Our Preschool. She holds a Diploma of Education in Early Childhood from KLC International institute and has 3 years of experience in the early childhood field.

Growing up in the countryside, Yin Xia has been surrounded by the forest and its wildlife, accompanied by sunshine, rain, rocks, flowers and trees. Being so close to nature has taught her to be empathetic, active, independent and confident, all of which are qualities that has followed her through adulthood. Yin Xia believes that no learning environment is as broad, varied, and attractive as the natural environment. The varying colours, shapes, wildlife and terrain that can be found in nature are children's best inspirations for creativity. Through their adventures and explorations in the natural environment, children can use their 5 senses to feel, explore and discover the wonders of the world!

If she were to be a bird, she would be a migratory bird who will fly far to find out the answers to the questions she has about our world!

 

Teacher Joanne

Joanne holds a Bachelor in Early Childhood, minoring in Psychology and a Diploma in Child Psychology. She has 8 years of experience in the early childhood field.

She believes that each child possesses a distinctive temperament and learning style, contributing their uniqueness to every new experience and actively engaging in the learning process. The connection between children and nature has been enduring, as we all share a bond with the natural world. Exploring, absorbing, and relishing in the natural environment stands as one of the most enriching experiences for children.

If she were an animal, she would be a koala. Koalas are natural carers, loving and reliable.

 

Teacher Trenna

Trenna is a Teacher at Our Preschool. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education from Singapore Institute of Technology - Wheelock College. She has close to 6 years of experience in the early childhood field. Having interned with the Education Department at Mandai Wildlife Reserves, she has had the opportunity to plan a themed programme for toddlers and create guides for teachers who will be visiting the parks.

Trenna believes that children learn best when they have a positive relationship with their teacher and when they have the empowerment to choose what they are interested in.  Hence, she focuses on building meaningful relationships with her children and hopes to instill a sense of wonder about the natural world to the children.

If she were to be a plant, she would be a sequoia tree. Calm and stable, just like how the sequoia is able to withstand fires. The seeds of the sequoia also split open from forest fires which grow from the burnt, bare soil, resembling Trenna's resilience through challenges.

 

Teacher Raudha

Raudha is a Teacher at our Preschool. She attained a Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education, focusing in Literacy from SEED-Wheelock College in 2012. Two decades of classroom teaching has enriched her with myriad of programme approaches and best practices - Reggio Emilia, IB PYP as well as EYFS, to name a few.

Raudha continues to seek opportunities to refresh her knowledge and skills in part of empowering her role as the facilitator in children's learning. Children's voices and play-based approach is prominent in her classroom style.

If she is a herb, she is a peppermint! An aromatic addition to any kind of provision.

 

Teacher May

May is a Teacher at Our Preschool. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education and Leadership Studies from Wheelock College Singapore. She has close to 8 years of experience in the early childhood field.

May believes that children learn best through play and hands-on exploration with the environment around them. Being their inquisitive selves, children are natural discoverers and all is needed is to provide the optimum environment and exposure for them to develop and grow into capable individuals. We, as adults, are important facilitators in their meaningful learning journey in making sense of the world. Being in nature also brought about the most fundamental experiences where children can make connections to who and what they are in the world.
 
If she were a sea creature, she would be a dolphin. Diving freely and playfully in the vast ocean while caring and staying close knitted to her pod and be there whenever they need her.

 

Teacher Diyanah

Diyanah holds a Degree in the Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education from Wheelock College Singapore, as well as a Diploma in Early Childhood Studies. She has close to 8 years of experience in the early childhood field. She has experience working with preschool children in various preschool settings and has conducted meaningful learning projects with kindergarten children in those schools.

Diyanah believes in providing children with ample opportunities to seek new knowledge and meaningful experiences, as well as instilling positive moral values through active engagement, exploration, and reflection.

If she were to be an animal, she would be a dolphin. Affectionate, curious, playful, and friendly!

 

Teacher Priscilla

Priscilla is a Chinese Teacher at Roots & Boots. She holds a BA(Hons) in Early Childhood Education from Institute of Technology Tralee in Ireland and has 5 years of experience in the early childhood industry. She believes that every child is unique and learns differently. She believes that learning takes place when children are engaged and enjoying themselves. She hopes to create a safe space where children and teachers can share ideas, explore and learn together.

If she were to be a plant, she would be a Chamomile, soothing, calming and therapeutic. 

 

Teacher Hui Ying

Hui Ying holds a Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education and has 11 years of experience working in various roles with children, teachers and parents in the early childhood field. She was part of the Early Childhood Learning Communities organised by EDCA as a pedagogist and specialist in teaching and learning. She practiced in the Social Emotional Development domain, leading by example and mentoring early childhood practitioners.

Hui Ying believes that children thrive best when they are in nurturing environments that support their growth. Nurture encourages children to connect with others, build important relationships, and make connections with the natural world that stay with them throughout their lives. She hopes to help children become confident, resilient, and curious explorers.

If she were to be an animal, an elephant would best describe her, as she is curious and always ready to share kindness and concern for others.
