OUR STORY: What does “school” mean to you?
We all have the impression of a school building with classrooms filled with teachers and children, based on our own experiences and memories. Having seen and been in different early childhood education settings, we thought “what exactly makes a school, a school?” One thing that stood out to us was the idea of COMMUNITY, where teachers, children, parents and caregivers come together. If so, then why not bring this community OUTDOORS? We have always believed that early experiences in our natural environment have a positive impact in children’s development and well-being. So it seemed only natural to use the outdoors and green spaces as a foundation for all learning to take place. With that came our Preschool Programme, a blend of different early childhood pedagogies set in an urban green setting, a “preschool” without walls, where learning opportunities are endless!
Our approach
Our outdoor learning preschool programme, just like all our other programmes, is rooted in our Urban Forest School approach. You can read more about it HERE. We integrate the best practices of different pedagogies such as Reggio Emilia, Montessori, and Project Approach, to bring a holistic, inquiry-based curriculum and fully-outdoor early childhood education experience - a first in Singapore.
